I resumed online English practice a few days ago little by little.
Althouh it is a small first step in the resumption, language learning has also a kind of " muscle memory ".
Never stop learning, and get out of one's comort zone gradually to expand one's horizen.
Today is the Fireworks Festival of Abe River in Shizuoka-city.
Originally, this event is dedicated to spirits of peoplw who lost their lives in the Pacific War.
When my father was alive, I used to watch fireworks in the night sky in summer with my father from upstairs of my house. Thus, the Abe River Fireworks Festival reminds me of the good old memory.
I hope my father and mother are enjoying tonight's fireworks from the heaven.
Obon, which is temporary return of souls of deceased family members during mid summer, makes me feel at ease and a little bit happy. However, this year's Obon is Shizuoka area is already over. Summer season reminds me of a good memory that I saw fireworks of Abe River from upstairs of my house ith my father.
Today's post is an exercise for expressing appreciation.
It means a lot to me.

It is the final day of Obon today, and a Buddist monk in my family temple came to my house to recite a sutra for welcoming temporary return of souls of my parents and ancesters during the Obon.
Also, a gardener came to my house to trim plants my father was taking care of.
I appreciate the visit of the both professionals in the midst of hot summer weather.
Hopefully, souls of my parents and ancesters safely return to the heaven.
Through the passing of my mother, I learned why the custom of Obon is so important in Japanese culture. Obone is a summer tradition in Japan in which it is believed that souls of deceased family members temporarily return to their homes fduring the middle of summer, like a summer vacation of the heaven.
Obon has become my most favorite seasonal event through the year, temporal return of souls of my parents, grandparents, and ancesters makes me happy and reminiscent of my deceased family members.
In Shizuoka-city, Obon is held from July 13th to July 15th.
In some other regions, Obone is held from August 13th to August 15th.
So to speak, July Obon and August Obon coexist in Japanese society.
Today, I visited my family grave to commemorate Obon.

In some regions, Obon is held in mid July, and in some other regions, Obon is held in mid August. In my region, it is held in mid July.
